Description
Eduardo e Cristina, performed at the Teatro San Benedetto in Venice on 24 April 1819, is the twenty-eighth opera composed by Rossini. It was widely circulated in the first half of the 19th century and later disappeared from the stage, like many of the composer's other operas. The reason for its poor fortune was the fact that it was considered a centone, i.e. a work made up of pieces taken from previous operas. This critical edition, edited by Andrea Malnati and Alice Tavilla, reconstructs the compositional path followed by Rossini for what is to all intents and purposes to be considered an original composition of great scenic and musical effect.
